Beginning as just the musings of Reuben and his dream to continue his journalist career beyond university, shoehorn first took form mid-Otley run. Over a painfully expensive pint, and donning a wizards attire, Reuben brought his ideas before the mighty council of Faye, an accomplished Journalism student by day, but a deeply unserious writer by night.
The result is an amalgamation of our favourite things, Skating and Music. It’s been done before, and it’ll probably be done again; but in the age of rising digital media, and the slow death of the printed word, we still aim to build something that we can be proud of, that our friends can enjoy, and that leaves a mark on an expanding culture.
With our solid foundation of two strong pillars, we believed ourselves set. What we couldn’t predict, however, is that we don’t have the attention span to focus solely on one section each. This led to the introduction of our Culture section.
To call it purely Culture would be likely vague at best, and heresy at worst. What the Culture section aims to fill, is the blank void that is our ramblings and disagreements, a blog of film reviews, political op-ed, and the occasional guest appearance from RyanEatsFood!
It’s safe to say that it will be an intensely disjointed section, but there in lies the appeal.
We are Shoehorn, and this might be our thing.
